5 Ways to Stand Your Ground for Healing

This article is by Kenneth Copeland

More than half of the states in the U.S. have what is known as “stand your ground” laws, which allows individuals to defend or protect themselves by use of force, rather than just running away.

God has given us a “stand your ground” law, too (See Matthew 10:1; Luke 9:1, 10:19; Ephesians 6:11; just to name a few). We have a list of promises—guaranteed blessings—that belong to us. But we have to stand against our enemy to take them and receive them.

To stand your ground means to refuse to change position—to refuse to move from one place to another—to refuse to retreat or lose your advantage in the face of opposition.

When it comes to healing, we must do the same—stand our ground. God will always heal every person who believes and receives. But just like any other promise of God, we must stand our ground to take it and keep it.

Standing your ground in the face of a full-on assault from the devil is no easy task. That’s why we’re giving you five ways to stand your ground for healing, to help you protect your rights and overcome everything that’s been stopping you.

1. Feed On the Right Spiritual Food

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” –Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)

Not all spiritual food is good. You may not think of it this way, but when you consume anything in your eyes and ears—it’s going into your spirit. A horror movie is going to feed your spirit fear and death. A good majority of movies, sitcoms and reality shows will feed your spirit strife and sin. Even some churches will feed you a boatload of doubt.

You may not think these things are a big deal, but just like in the natural—you will reflect what you consume. Whatever you feed on in the spirit realm is what will become stronger. If you mediate on fear and doubt, that’s what is going to be the strongest in your life and mind. It will have the greatest influence on how you respond to life’s challenges.

What happens when the Word goes into your heart? Faith comes! Faith is that force that comes from inside you that causes God’s power to be manifested in your body or any situation you’re facing.

When you feed on the right spiritual food—the Word of God—again and again, you will give your spirit the strength to stand your ground for healing. Just like in the natural, you need regular feedings! Don’t skip a meal. Keep feeding on the Word for maximum results.

2. Study Until You’re an Expert

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” –Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)

If you want to become an expert at receiving from God, you need to first become an expert at knowing what He’s offering and what you can expect. Christians who don’t spend much time studying the Word of God are not the people who walk in divine health, peace and prosperity. That’s because they don’t know how to receive it! They haven’t taken the time to become experts on the promises of God.

How would you define an expert?

If you read a book on investing one time, you’ll know more than you did before you read it, but you won’t be an expert! An expert is a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill in a particular area.

If you’re going to stand your ground for healing, you’re going to have to become an expert in the Word of God concerning healing and all His promises. You’ll need to know how to combat the enemy and TAKE what belongs to you.

3. Speak Faith on Repeat

“The tongue has the power of life and death.” –Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)

Once you become an expert, you’ll know the importance of speaking faith on repeat. Speaking positively about your situation or speaking scripture once or twice, then filling in the blanks with a bunch of fearful talk, won’t get the job done.

Norvel Hayes once shared a testimony with Gloria Copeland that demonstrates just that. He had gone to the hospital to pray for a man who was in the ICU after a serious accident. The doctors had told his wife he wouldn’t last the night. As he was about to leave, the Lord instructed Norvel to share something with his wife. Norvel said, “All day long, I want you to say, ‘My husband will live and not die, in the Name of Jesus.’”

She was sitting in the hospital room all day anyway, so she did it. She said, “My husband will live and not die in the Name of Jesus.” She said it thousands of times. Within 24 hours, a notable change occurred, and her husband began to improve. Within two weeks, he was on his way to a full recovery!

She spoke faith on repeat, and she got results.

The same happened to a woman who had cancer. The doctors sent her home, giving her only a few weeks to live. She spent every day, all day, speaking the Word of God over her deliverance and healing. All day long, she spoke words of healing. She told Satan, “You’re not going to kill me. I’ve been delivered from cancer.”

She spoke faith on repeat, and she was completely healed!

Dodie Osteen was healed of terminal cancer in the same way. (Find the scriptures Dodie spoke daily HERE.)

You see, to stand your ground for healing, you’ve got to speak faith on repeat.

4. Take Your Healing by Force

“Faith without works is dead.” –James 2:26 (NKJV)

If you’re only hoping, wishing, begging and pleading God for healing, you’re not standing your ground. You’ve got to take your healing by force.

Some people sit in a chair and wait for God to drop healing into their bodies from the sky. But that’s not how it works. Gloria Copeland explains it this way: “If I hand you a birthday gift and you put your hands behind your back, you won’t receive it. It just stays with me. If you want what I’m offering, you have to reach out and take it.”

But it goes a step further than that. When you reach out to take that gift, you-know-who is planning to jump between you and your promise. He’ll do everything he can to rob you of it. That’s why you’ve got to take it by force—the force of faith.

You take it with your faith (no doubting, no wavering), and you take it with right words (no speaking contrary to faith). And you keep at it until the devil turns tail and runs the other way.

You’re not supposed to be bossy with your spouse or your friends, but you should be bossy with the devil. Take it out on him. Tell him he can’t touch your body. Tell him to leave.

Take authority! It belongs to you. Stand against sickness, and don’t let the devil run over you. Tell him, “No you’re not going to put that on me. Devil, you’re not going to kill me with cancer. I’ve been delivered from that!”

If you say the right things, the right things will happen. But if you call all your friends and declare what the doctor said, “I have two months to live, I have two months to live,” you’re speaking the wrong thing, and the wrong thing will happen.

5. Praise God for Your Healing

“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” –Psalm 34:1 (NKJV)

This is where you may need to stand your ground the longest. But it’s the final step.

When you praise God for your healing, you’re ultimately saying, “This is done. I’ve got this. Healing is mine.” That’s faith. And if you’re willing to stand there without moving—no matter how long it takes—it won’t be long until you see your manifestation.

You can praise Him any day, anytime for your healing because it’s already done. God is a good God, and He loves you. Lift your hands up to the Lord today and every day. Praise Him and thank Him for who He is and all He’s done for you. Praise Him with singing and dancing. Praise Him for loving you and sending Jesus to save you. Praise Him for your family, your friends and your church; and that your needs are met. Praise will build your faith and open the door to manifestations in your life!

You can stand your ground for healing when you follow these five tips. Jesus paid the price for your healing, and He wants you to have it! Stand your ground. Lay hold of your healing. You’ll be so glad you did!
